An onlooker was left shocked after he spotted a professional beggar change from brand new clothes into scruffy rags before spending a day outside a railway station pleading for cash.
They were taken in Liverpool city centre - where the mayor, Joe Anderson, is leading a crackdown against so-called professional beggars who give those genuinely in need a bad name by tricking passers-by into handing over their money.
Accoding to the Liverpool Echo, the pictures were taken by a passer-by outside a railway station and handed to the media by the mayor's office.
The man who took them, who does not wish to be named, said he “could not believe his eyes” .
