Man swindles lady to the tune of N1.9m with promises of marriage

The Lagos state police command has arrested a 29-year old man, Mr Ebuka Okeke for allegedly obtaining N1.9m from a single lady identified as Ogochukwu Ogbuehi who he made to believe he would marry but later dumped her.


P.M.EXPRESS reports that asides swindling her he also made her take an oath never to tell anyone he collected the said money to marry her. This he did with a bread.The incident happened bat the Iyana Ipaja area of Lagos where the suspect and the complainant reside.

Okeke is alkso said to have visited the victim's shop and drank assorted drinks worth N20,000 without paying at the same period.

When Ogochukwu got tired of waiting, she asked when their wedding plans would begin but of course Okeke began giving excuses. Ogochukwu got tired and asked that he returned her money but he refused giving her back.

She reported the case at the Police at Area M Command, Idimu. Okeke was then arrested and taken to the Command for interrogation.

Upon arrest  Okeke admitted that he collected the said amount from her and also promised to marry her. He however said his family is against marrying the victim and promised to pay back the money, but should be given time.

Okeke was charged before the Ejigbo Magistrates court for obtaining under false pretence and placing the victim under false oath. He pleaded not guilty and the presiding Magistrate, Mr Akeem Fashola granted him bail in the sum of N50,000 with two sureties in like sum.

 He however is currently in prison custody pending when he will perfect the bail condition and the matter was further adjourned till 18th of October, 2017.
