Police in Germany have arrested a 53-year-old man “strongly suspected” of poisoning baby food and threatening to poison other products in stores nationwide and across Europe.
At a press conference,police said that the man had refused to give reasons behind this act but evidence implicating him was however found at his home.
Local deputy chief of police Uwe Stuermer described the man as “eccentric” and mentally disturbed.
A surveillance footage was released by the police after alerting citizens of receiving a warning about the man. The footage showed the man poisoning five baby food products with ethylene glycol, a chemical found in anti-freeze and brake fluid.
Via the surveillance videos of the stores he went to, the police were able to identify the baby food jars and get images of his face.
